The Dutch Quest magazine commissioned an illustration for the article Land in sight. The article explains how 7% of the entire landmass consists of towns and villages and in this tiny area lives about 90% of the world population. Based on real percentages this illustration represents what it would look like if the whole surface of the world would fit into a 100 m x 100 m.
Glacial mass 13% (Ice masses of e.g. Antartica and Greenland), Tundra 7% (area with -at most- low growing plants around the polar areas), Pine Woods 15% (pine woods in cold areas), Decidious Forests 6% (woods as you find in England, Europe), Grassland 9% (grassy areas), Tropical woods 15% (jungle), Savanna 13% (warm grassy areas with few trees), Bushland 12% (dry areas with low growth), Desert 9% (dry and hot areas with little growth).
